Box Score 2 Bolivar, Mo. - The Southwest Baptist University softball team used strong pitching efforts from
Kacey Ayers and
Kyra Parker to claim a double-header sweep over Williams Baptist on Tuesday afternoon. The Bearcats claimed game one 6-1 while taking game two 3-0. With the wins, SBU improves to 10-15 on the season.
In game one, the Bearcats started the scoring off in the first when
Caitlyn Cooner singled to centerfield to plate
Rachel Ray and give SBU a 1-0 lead. After a scoreless second, the Bearcats opened the game up in the bottom of the third. SBU put their first two runners on base for Cooner who doubled to left center, bringing home one runner, and putting SBU up 2-0. Two batters later,
Stormy Christerson singled home two runners, followed by an rbi single from
Raigan Ratliff to put the Bearcats up 5-0. SBU added another insurance run off of a Christerson rbi fielder's choice, taking a 6-0 lead, as SBU cruised to a 6-1 victory. In the circle
Kacey Ayers threw an outstanding game, allowing only one run while striking out five across seven innings.
In the second game of the day, SBU jumped ahead in the third inning when
Catlin Evans singled home Ratliff to put the Bearcats up 1-0. Southwest Baptist added to their lead in the following inning when
Dana Graves doubled home Ray, while SBU added a third run in the fourth inning when Evans tripled home
Kelcee Welch to put SBU up 3-0. The three runs were more than enough for
Kyra Parker who threw a complete game two-hit shutout as SBU cruised to a 3-0 victory.
The Bearcats will return to MIAA action on Friday, March 29 when they travel to Central Missouri for a double-header against the Jennies. Opening pitch of game one is set to begin at 5:00 p.m. from Warrensburg, Missouri.
