3/20/2015 7:46:00 PM

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Bolivar, MO – The SBU Bearcats (7-13, 4-10 MIAA) split a double header against the Lincoln Blue Tigers (1-15, 1-8 MIAA) this afternoon.

In Game 1, Lincoln jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the 1st inning.  SBU would answer back with two runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning when Spencer Blacksher singled down the right field line bringing in Chance Wolfe and Christian Binger

In the top of the 2nd, Lincoln would tack on three more runs increasing their lead to 7-2.  SBU, however, began to claw their way back into the game starting in the 3rd inning.  In the inning, Christian Binger doubled down the right field line and came around to score on a Ross Wolfe single to right field.

In the 4th, Caleb Sneed drove in Jake Vore with an RBI groundout.  Cory Canterbury followed with a two-run homerun to right field cutting the Lincoln lead to 7-6.  In the 5th, SBU again rallied for three runs to take a 9-7 lead.  In the inning the Bearcats scored on an RBI single by Jake Vore, a sac fly by Peyton Reed, and a safety squeeze bunt by Trevor Bowling

Both teams were held scoreless in the 6th before Lincoln scored two runs in the 7th to tie the ballgame at 9.  What ensued was reminiscent of an old-school boxing match.  Both teams would trade runs for 5 innings before Lincoln finally landed the knockout blow.  Every inning, it seemed, SBU would be down to their last strike or their last out and they would battle back and tie the game, but Lincoln scored the final run in the top of the 12th winning the game by a final score of 15-14.

Jordan Barrett (2-1) picked up the win pitching 6 innings in relief for the Blue Tigers.  He gave up 5 R (4 ER) while striking out 4.  Ryan Simpson took home the save pitching a scoreless 12 inning for Lincoln

Cole Roark (1-5) picked up the loss for the Bearcats allowing 1 run on 2 hits and striking out 3 in 1 inning of relief.

In Game 2, the Bearcats started off the scoring in the 2nd inning and never looked back, dominating the game from start to finish.  In the 2nd, Zach Snodgrass singled up the middle before Tim Gurnow doubled him home making it 1-0.  Zach Pirrello followed with a single, stole second, and moved to third on a wild pitch that scored Gurnow.  After Chance Wolfe walked, Christian Binger brought both runners home with an RBI double making it 4-0 SBU.  Before the inning ended, Binger would score on a wild pitch increasing the SBU lead to 5-0.

In the 4th inning, the Bearcats tacked on two more runs on RBI singles by Spencer Blacksher and Cory Canterbury making the score 7-0 SBU.

SBU would go on to score 4 more runs over the next two innings, led by a solo home run from Tim Gurnow, to make the lead 11-0.  Lincoln would scratch out a run in the top of the 7th, but Michael Proiette fanned Nick Lovell looking to end the game.

Michael Proiette (3-1) was brilliant for the Bearcats in Game 2.  He pitched a complete game while scattering 9 hits and striking out 8 batters.

Ryan Simpson (0-4) took the loss in relief for the Blue Tigers allowing 5 runs on 6 hits in 1 1/3 innnings.

The Bearcats were led in hitting by Christian Binger, who went 5-8 with 2 doubles and 2 RBI on the day, and Spencer Blacksher, who went 5-10 with 2 doubles and 6 RBI on the day.  Tim Gurnow and Cory Canterbury both knocked home runs for the Bearcats as well.

The Bearcats will be back in action tomorrow at Dodson Field, where they will host the Lincoln Blue Tigers in a MIAA double header.  First pitch is scheduled for 1pm.
