Box Score Springfield, Mo. - The Southwest Baptist University baseball team collected 11 hits, one off of their season high, in a tough 4-3 loss at Drury on Tuesday evening.
After three innings of scoreless baseball to open up the game, Drury struck first in the fourth inning with a run to take a 1-0 lead. The Bearcats responded in the top of the fifth with three runs to take a 3-1 lead. Singles from
Payton Reed and
Caleb Sneed put runners on the corners with two outs.
Chance Wolfe then doubled down the left field line, plating Reed, and then a two-rbi single from
Christian Binger gave SBU a 3-1 lead. DU responded with three runs of their own in the sixth, and the Bearcats were unable to get on the scoreboard as they fell 4-3 on the day.
Logan Johnson went 5.0 innings in his first start of the season, allowing three runs, while
Cory Canterbury and
Chance Wolfe both had two hits for the Bearcats on the day.
SBU will return to action on Friday, March 20 when they host Lincoln in an MIAA double-header. Opening pitch of game one is set to begin at 1:00 p.m. from Bolivar, Missouri.
