Box Score 2 Springfield, Mo. - The Southwest Baptist University softball team earned a split at Drury on Wednesday evening, picking up a 3-1 game two victory after falling 3-1 in the opening game. After the day, SBU now stands at 7-12 on the season.
In game two the Bearcats and Lady Panthers were in a tight pitcher's dual, with neither team scoring in the first five innings of play. In the top of the 6th the Bearcats put two runners on with two outs before
Brittanie Halquist blasted a three-run homerun to to right center to take a 3-0 lead. Drury responded with a run in the bottom half of the inning, but
Kacey Ayers shut down DU for the remainder of the game as SBU claimed a 3-1 victory. Ayers threw a complete game, allowing only four hits while striking out nine in the win.
In game one the Bearcats jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first.
Catlin Evans led the game off with a double to left center, and two batters later Halquist singled to right field to bring home Evans as SBU took the lead. Drury responded with a run in the first to tie the game up, and two more in the fourth, as the Bearcats would fall 3-1 in game one.
The Bearcats will be back in action on Friday, March 13 when they travel to Northwest Missouri. Opening pitch of game one of the double-header is set to begin at 1:00 p.m. from Maryville, Missouri.
