Kansas City, Mo. - The Southwest Baptist University softball team fell in a double-header at Rockhurst on Tuesday evening. The Bearcats dropped game one 5-2 before falling in game two 4-3.

In the opening game of the day, SBU jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead after a half inning of play. A pair of singles from Rachel Ray and Brittanie Halquist brought up Caitlyn Cooner who hit an rbi single through the left side to put the Bearcats up 1-0. Rockhurst responded in the bottom half of the inning with a run of their own to tie the game up, but the Bearcats re-took the lead in the third. Catlin Evans led the inning off with a single, stole second, was sacrificed to third, and then came home on an rbi sacrifice fly from Cooner to put SBU up 2-1. However, Rockhurst would score the next four runs of the game as SBU would fall 5-2.

In game two the Bearcats once again were the first to strike, taking a 1-0 lead in the third inning of play. Emily Davis led the inning off with a single to right field, was moved over to third base on a pair of outs, and was brought home by a Halquist single through the right side as SBU took a 1-0 lead. The Hawks responded in the bottom half of the inning, tying the game up at 1-1, and RU would score another run in the 5th as the Bearcats trailed 2-1. In the top of the sixth, the Bearcats used a pair of errors to tie the game up at 2-2, and would take a 3-2 lead in the top of the seventh when Halquist came home on another error by the Hawks. However, Rockhurst would score two in the bottom half of the inning as SBU would lose a heartbreaker 4-3.

The Bearcats quickly return to action on Wednesday, March 11 when they travel to Drury. Opening pitch of game one of the double-header is set for 4:00 p.m. from Springfield, Missouri.
