Warrensburg, Mo. – The Southwest Baptist University track and field team had a strong conclusion to the MIAA Indoor Track & Field Championships on Sunday afternoon. SBU produced 6 national provisional qualifying marks while
Maverick Bowleg claimed the 400 meter title, the first of his career.
Faith Harris started things off for the Bearcats in the women's long jump where she placed 15
th with a jump of 5.02 meters which ranks 5
th all-time at SBU. In the men's long jump
Jacob Lawrence finished 25
th with a jump of 5.60 meters while
David Hall finished 26
th with a jump of 5.57 meters.
In the women's high jump, Natalie O'Keefe hit a national provisional qualifying mark with her 6
th place finish clearing 1.70 meters. In the men's weight throw,
Ryland Massey finished 19
th with a throw of 13.14 meters which ranks 4
th all-time at SBU. In the women's shot put, Kat Graham broke the SBU school record with a throw of 11.62 meters, good for 16
th in the meet, while Becca Altic finished 22
nd with a throw of 10.26 meters.
Kicking off the running events, Elizabeth Luckel earned All-MIAA honors with a second place finish in the women's mile finishing in a national provisional qualifying time of 4:59.86. Katherine Sitzes finished 6
th in the same event in a time of 5:10.33, while Ashley Lawson finished 8
th in a time of 5:16.03. In the men's mile,
Drew Cargill finished 7
th overall in a time of 4:21.98 after winning his heat.
Next up in the men's 60 meter hurdles,
Dylan Barnum narrowly missed a national provisional qualifying time with a 7
th place finish in a time of 8.28. In the women's 400 meter dash, Ceckia Pierce took 6
th in a national provisional qualifying time of 57.28, while Mary Bergman finished 7
th in a time of 57.50 which is also a national provisional qualifying time. On the men's side,
Maverick Bowleg claimed his first ever MIAA Individual Title by winning the 400 in a national provisional qualifying time of 48.51.
In the women's 600 yard run Margaret Hurst finished 7
th in a time of 1:31.21, while Alexis Fritz finished 8
th in the 800 meter run in a time of 2:24.92. In the women's 200 meter dash, Mary Bergman ran the 5
th fastest time in SBU history with her 6
th place finish in a time of 25.63. On the men's side,
Maverick Bowleg finished 7
th in a time of 22.24.
In the final distance event of the day, Elizabeth Luckel won the first heat of the 3,000 meter run, finishing 7
th overall in a time of 10:20.36 which ranks 4
th all-time at SBU. In the same event Katherine Sitzes finished 8
th in a time of 10:23.91 while Ashley Lawson finished 18
th (10:46.71), Alexis Lindemann finished 20
th (10:47.37), and Katelyn Evans finished 27
th (11:20.83). On the men's side
Luke Karamitros finished 8
th overall in a time of 8:44.82, while
Drew Cargill finished 11
th (8:50.15),
Thomas Chabrecek 19
th (8:55.13), and
Cody Troy Smith 20
th (8:56.67).
Closing out the day were the 4x400 meter relays. The women's relay, comprised of Mary Bergman, Ine Van-Hoeck, Kate Crane, and Ceckia Pierce earned All-MIAA honors with a 3
rd place finish in a time of 3:55.75. SBU's performance ranks 5
th all-time and is a national provisional qualifying time. On the men's side, the relay comprised of
Niall Thomas,
Dwayne Lawrence,
Nathan Evans, and
Maverick Bowleg finished 5
th overall in a time of 3:23.58.
As a team, the women finished 6
th with 52 total points while the men finished 10
th with 23 total points.
