SBU Men's Basketball Travels to UNK for Opening Round of MIAA Tournament on Monday

Bolivar, Mo. - The Bearcats will hit the road for the opening round of the MIAA Postseason Tournament when they travel to Nebraska-Kearney on Monday. The winner will advance on to Kansas City on Thursday to play #3 seed Missouri Southern at 8:15 p.m.

The Coaches and the All-Time Series
SBU head coach Clark Sheehy begins his first season on the SBU bench after coming to the Bearcats from John Brown University. Coach Sheehy holds a career coaching record of 182-106 across nine seasons while coaching six different All-Americans and over 20 athletes that have moved on to play professional basketball.

Tom Kropp is in his 35th year as a coach, and 25th year at Nebraksa-Kearney, entering the 2014-15 season. Kropp holds a career coaching record at UNK of 464-235 and has split head coaching duties with Kevin Lofton over the past 10 years.

Southwest Baptist leads the all-time series against Nebraska-Kearney 3-2. The Lopers claimed the only meeting between the two squads at UNK in December 80-62.

Scouting the Bearcats
The Bearcats enter into the MIAA Postseason Tournament with a 11-17 (6-13 MIAA) record on the season after falling to Missouri Western 71-58 in their final regular season contest. Southwest Baptist is led in scoring by Menas Stephens who averages a double-double at 11.8 points per game and an MIAA high 10.4 rebounds per game. Daymond Cowlah also averages 10.3 points per game to go along with 2.6 assists per game, while Derrick Stewart averages 8.9 points per game, Finn Delany averages 7.3 points per game, Quniton Smith averages 7.0 points per game, and Patrick Burke averages 5.8 points per game.

Scouting the Lopers
Nebraska-Kearney enters the game against Southwest Baptist finishing the regular season with a 17-9 (12-7 MIAA) record. The Lopers fell on the road to Central Oklahoma 74-69 to close out the regular season. UNK is led in scoring by Connor Beranek who averages 19.7 ppg and 7.7 rpg. Ethan Brozek also averages 17.2 ppg and a team high 7.9 rpg while Trey Lansman averages 12.0 ppg.
