Bolivar, Mo. - After a week away from action, the Southwest Baptist University men's basketball team returns home to host Central Missouri on Thursday.
The Coaches and the All-Time SeriesSBU head coach
Clark Sheehy begins his first season on the SBU bench after coming to the Bearcats from John Brown University. Coach Sheehy holds a career coaching record of 182-106 across nine seasons while coaching six different All-Americans and over 20 athletes that have moved on to play professional basketball.
Doug Karleskint enters into his first year as the head coach at Central Missouri after spending the previous four seasons at Arkansas Tech. Karleskint holds a career coaching record of 90-34 heading into his 5th year as a head coach.
Central Missouri leads the all-time series against Southwest Baptist 39-22. The Mules claimed a 85-67 victory over SBU in Bolivar last season.
Scouting the BearcatsThe Bearcats fell at home to Missouri Southern 68-65 their last time out, and are now 9-12 (4-8 MIAA) on the season. Southwest Baptist is led in scoring by
Menas Stephens who averages a double-double at 12.0 points per game and an MIAA high 10.4 rebounds per game.
Daymond Cowlah also averages 10.0 points per game to go along with 2.7 assists per game, while
Finn Delany averages 7.8 points per game,
Derrick Stewart averages 7.7 points per game, Quniton Smith averages 7.2 points per game, and
Robert Shaw averages 6.4 points per game.
Scouting the MulesCentral Missouri enters the game against Southwest Baptist with a 17-4 (8-4 MIAA) record on the season and are ranked #25 in the latest NABC Coaches Poll. The Mules are coming off of a 89-79 victory over Missouri Southern, and have won four of their last five. UCM is led in scoring by Rakeem Dickerson who is averaging 13.5 ppg and a team high 4.2 apg. Dillon Deck is also in double-figures at 11.1 ppg, while TJ White leads the rebounding attack for the Mules by hauling in 6.5 rpg.
