Box Score St. Joseph, Mo. - The Southwest Baptist University women's basketball team season came to a close on Saturday afternoon following a 78-65 loss on the road to Missouri Western. The Bearcats finished the 2014-15 season with a record of 9-18 (4-15 MIAA).
The Bearcats and Griffons played a tight contest in St. Joseph on Saturday, with neither team taking control of the game in the first half. SBU and MWSU exchanged baskets for the entire half, with neither team leading by more than four points before MWSU ended the half on a 7-0 as the Bearcats went into the break trailing 37-32.
In the second half, SBU came right out and tied the game up off of a three and a layup from
Ashlee Pitts. Western responded with four points of their own, but once again Southwest Baptist responded back and would take a 47-46 lead with 13:20 to go in the contest. The Bearcats and Griffons were even at 49 a piece at the 12:13 mark in the second half before MWSU used a 10-0 run over the next five minutes to open up the game. The Bearcats cut the lead back down to three (62-59) with 3:50 to go, but were unable to overcome MWSU as they would fall 78-65.
Dilonna Johnson led the way for SBU on the day, scoring a team high 19 points to go along with 9 assists.
Megan Rosenbohm had 13 points and 3 steals off of the bench, while
Ashlee Pitts added 9 points in the loss. As a team, SBU shot 37.9% from the field, 18.5% from beyond the arc, and 62.5% from the free throw line.
