SBU Men's Basketball Falls at Home to Northwest Missouri

Box Score Bolivar, Mo. - The Southwest Baptist University men's basketball team fell at home to Northwest Missouri 72-54 on Thursday evening in Bolivar. With the loss, SBU drops to 11-16 (6-12 MIAA).

Northwest Missouri opened up the contest on a 10-2 run spanning over the first five minutes of play. Southwest Baptist responded right back, and a three from Quinton Smith pulled SBU within three at 10-7. NWMSU used a 14-2 run to open the game back up, as SBU trailed 24-9 with 9:46 to go in the first half. After a back-and-forth half, SBU went into the break trailing 35-23.

In the second half, Northwest Missouri pushed their lead to 21 (50-29) with 13:48 to go in the contest before Southwest Baptist started chipping away. SBU used a 11-0 run to cut the deficit back down to 10 (50-40), but Southwest Baptist couldn't overcome Northwest Missouri as they would end up falling 72-54.

Daymond Cowlah led the way for SBU with 11 points while Derrick Stewart added 10 points in the loss. As a team, SBU shot 42.9% from the field, 21.1% from beyond the arc, and 82.4% from the free throw line.

The Bearcats will close out their regular season on Saturday, February 28 when they travel to Missouri Western. Tip-off against the Griffons is set to begin at 3:30 p.m. from St. Joseph, Missouri.
