Pittsburg, Kan. - The Southwest Baptist University softball team dropped a double-header at Pittsburg State on Wednesday in the MIAA opener for both squads. The Bearcats fell 7-5 in game one before dropping game two 10-4.

In game one the Bearcats were the first to strike in the top of the third when Catlin Evans hit a solo homerun down the left field line to give SBU a 1-0 lead. Pitt State responded in the bottom half of the fourth with a pair of runs, but SBU re-took the lead an inning later. With one out in the fifth, Evans singled down the left field line and a walk from Brittanie Halquist and a hit batsman loaded the bases with two outs. Stormy Christerson came through big with a single to left center, plating two runs, and giving SBU a 3-2 lead. In the sixth, Addie Murders hit a pinch-hit solo homerun to left field to extend the Bearcat lead to 4-2. However, PSU would tie the game back up in the bottom of the sixth before Dana Graves hit SBU's third homerun of the day with a solo shot to center field in the top of the seventh to put SBU back up 5-4. PSU responded in the bottom of the seventh with three runs as the Bearcats would fall 7-5 in game one.

In the second game, the Bearcats were once again the first to get on the scoreboard by scoring two runs in the top of the second. Back-to-back singles from Kacey Ayers and Christerson put runners on second and third when Kaley Hansen singled home both runners to put the Bearcats up 2-0. PSU responded in the bottom half of the inning with five runs, and would score the game's next eight runs, as the Bearcats fell behind 8-2. SBU got back on the scoreboard again in the sixth when Rachel Ray tripled home Hansen and Murders to cut the PSU lead to 8-4, but SBU went on to a 10-4 game two loss.

SBU will be back in action on Saturday, February 28 when they travel to Rockhurst for a double-header with the Hawks. Opening pitch of game one is set for 1:00 p.m. from Kansas City.
