Box Score Warrensburg, Mo. - The Southwest Baptist University women's basketball team found three players in double digits but fell in their return to action on Saturday 72-55 at Central Missouri. With the loss, SBU drops to 8-17 (3-13 MIAA) on the season.
The Jennies had a strong start but with a jumper from
Mackenzie Skupa followed by a three from
Alexis Edwards the Bearcats kept it a close game. Central Missouri responded, and slowly started to build a lead during the first half. The Bearcats pushed through and stayed strong coming within in 3 points at the 14:15 mark with the support of a three-pointer by
Ashlee Pitts. However, the Jennies went into the remaining five minutes of the half off of a 10-2 run bring the score to 35-19. Â SBU continued to play hard and went into the half trailing 40-29.
In the second half UCM continued to push their lead, as SBU consistently stayed down about 10 points throughout the half. The Bearcats were unable to pull back within sixteen, as SBU fell 72-55 in the contest.
SBU found three players in double digits in the loss.
Natalie O'Keefe led the way for SBU with a career high 14 points, while
Leann Terrill added 13 points and
Ashlee Pitts added 12 points in the loss. As a team, SBU shot 33.3% from the field, 35.7% from beyond the arc, and 66.7% from the free throw line.
SBU will return to action on at home on Thursday, February 26 when they play Northwest Missouri State. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m. from Bolivar, Missouri.
