Box Score 2 Wichita, KS – The Bearcats (3-5, 0-4 MIAA) lost a pair of games in an MIAA double header on the road today against the Washburn Ichabods (7-0, 4-0).
In Game 1, the Ichabods jumped out to early 5-0 lead in the 1st inning behind an RBI bunt single by Kyle Carnahan followed by a Connor Crimmins grand slam, Washburn's 4th of the series.
The Ichabods would tack on two more runs in the 2nd inning on a Tanner Triggs RBI double to right field taking a 7-0 lead.
Junior pitcher Evan Stransky came on to pitch in the bottom of the 2nd inning for the Bearcats holding the Ichabods scoreless for 4 2/3 inning giving SBU a chance to rally.
In the top of the 7th SBU threatened to come all the back, scoring 4 runs, before pinch hitter Tim Gurnow grounded out leaving the bases loaded. In the inning, the Bearcats got RBI singles from Chance Wolfe and Trevor Bowling.
Zach Linquist (1-0) picked up the win for Washburn, giving up 0 runs while striking out 3 in 6 innnings pitched
Tim Collins (1-1) picked up the loss for the Bearcats giving up 7 runs in 1 1/3 innings pitched.
In Game 2, the Bearcats struck first when Spencer Blacksher hit a double to drive in Ross Wolfe, who had led the game off with a walk, making it 1-0.
In the bottom of the 2nd inning, Washburn would take a 2-1 lead on a two RBI single by Payton Soicher.The Bearcats would fight back to tie it at 2 in the top of the of the next inning when Christian Binger scored from third base on a wild pitch, but the Ichabods would score the game's next three runs leading 5-2 heading into the 9th inning.
SBU again made it exciting in the last inning scoring twice on a Christian Binger two-run Homerun, but it was not enough to come away with a victory as the Bearcats fell to the Ichabods by a final score of 5-4.
Eric Schmid (1-0) picked up the win for Washburn pitching 6 innings giving up 2 runs (2 ER), while striking out 8.
Cole Roark (1-1) took the loss for the Bearcats giving up 5 runs on 6 hits in 5 innings.
Christian Binger was solid at the plate for the Bearcats going 3-7 on the day with a 2B, a HR and 3 RBI.
The Bearcats will be back in action next weekend when they host Missouri Southern State in a four-game MIAA conference series. First pitch of Game 1 is set for Thursday, February 26th at 2pm. Game 2 will be played on Friday, February 27th with another 2pm first pitch. On Saturday February 28th, the Bearcats will finish the series against the Lions with a doubleheader set to start at Noon.
