Bentonville, Ark. - The Southwest Baptist University softball team picked up two victories on the road on Saturday to improve to 5-4 on the season. The Bearcats claimed a 2-1 extra innings win over Upper Iowa, followed by a 4-3 victory over Ouachita Baptist.

In the opening game against Upper Iowa, the Peacocks struck first in the bottom of the first inning as SBU fell behind 1-0 early. The Bearcats responded right back in the top of the second inning, as Caitlyn Cooner led the inning off with a walk and would come home later in the inning off of a single from Raigan Ratliff to tie the game up at 1-1. SBU pitcher Kyra Parker was solid for the remainder of the game, entering into extra innings while still holding UIU to the single run scored in the first. The Bearcats broke the tie in the top of the 8th when Dana Graves doubled home Brittanie Halquist as SBU picked up a 2-1 extra innings win.

In game two, the Bearcats were the first to put a run on the scoreboard in the bottom of the first. Rachel Ray led the inning off with a single, stole second, and came home on an rbi single down the left field line by Brittanie Halquist to give SBU a 1-0 lead. OBU responded back with runs in the third, fourth, and fifth to take a 3-1 lead, but the Bearcats weren't done yet. In the bottom of the sixth inning, with Halquist on first, Caitlyn Cooner blasted a two-run homerun to tie the game up at 3-3. The Bearcats and Tigers were forced to play extra innings where Cooner came up with a huge walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth inning to claim the 4-3 victory.

Southwest Baptist will take ten days off before returning to action when they travel to Pittsburg State to open up MIAA on Tuesday, February 24. Opening pitch of game one of the double-header is set to begin at 2:00 p.m. from Pittsburg, Kansas.
