Coach Sheehy Collects 200th Win as SBU Downs Sterling College 95-76

Bolivar, Mo. - Southwest Baptist University head men's basketball coach Clark Sheehy picked up his 200th career win a 95-76 victory over Sterling College on Wednesday evening. With the win, the Bearcats improve to 7-4 on the season.

The Bearcats opened up the game with a jumper from Logan Hovey, and an old fashioned three-point play by Marley Biyendolo put the Bearcats up 7-4 with 17:22 left in the first half. The Bearcats and Warriors went back-and-forth, as SBU extended their lead to four (12-8) with a three from Kai Woodfall with 16:09 left in the half. Sterling College responded with a 7-2 run, taking their first lead of the game (15-14) before the Bearcats bounced right back with a 5-0 run with another three from Woodfall and a layup from Damian Prgomet to take a 19-15 lead with 12:18 remaining in the half. The Warriors went on another 8-1, as SBU trailed 27-24 with 7:06 left in the half. However, once again the Bearcats bounced right back with a 6-0 run, capped off by another Prgomet layup, to re-take the lead. The scoring went back-and-forth for the remainder of the half, and a three from Biyendolo gave SBU their largest lead of the half (42-36) before going into the break up 42-39.

SBU opened up the second half with an 8-2 run, pushing their lead quickly to nine at 50-41, as SBU was able to get into the paint and to the free throw line to extend their lead. Sterling College continued to hang around, hitting a three with 15:05 left in the contest to cut the Bearcats lead to three (54-51), and another three tied the contest up at 56-56 with 13:50 left in the game. From that point forward the Bearcats took complete control of the game. A jumper by Nate Nahirny gave the Bearcats their lead back, a three from Adny Campbell extended their lead to double-digits (68-56), and a three from Hovey capped off a 17-0 SBU run to put them up 73-56 with 8:19 to go in the game. Southwest Baptist continued to hold Sterling College at arm's length, and a layup from Brian Patterson with gave SBU their biggest lead at 23 (93-70) with 2:34 to go in the game, before SBU would eventually go on to claim the 95-76 victory.

Logan Hovey led all scorer's with 19 points to go along with a team high 6 rebounds, while Kai Woodfall and Brian Patterson both chipped in 17 points. Marley Biyendolo was also in double-figures with 10 points to go along with a team high 7 assists. As a team, SBU shot 51.5% from the field, 35.7% from beyond the arc, and 88.2% from the line.

The Bearcats will return to MIAA action on Monday, January 4th when they travel to Central Missouri. Play is set to begin at 7:30 p.m. from Warrensburg, Missouri.
