                Box Score Photo GalleryBolivar, Mo. - The SBU Women's Basketball team picked up a 62-38 victory over the Northwest Missouri to start the MIAA portion of their schedule on Thursday evening. The win brings the SBU Bearcats record to 5-1 (1-0 MIAA) on the season.
 
The game started off with a layup by 
Caylee Richardson to put the SBU Bearcats up 2-0.  The NWMSU Bearcats answered back with back-to-back 3-pointers to gain the lead, before a jumper by 
Alex Botkin kept the SBU Bearcats within 2 and a block by 
Mackenzie Skupa gave the SBU Bearcats the ball back with 5:28 left in the quarter. 
Dilonna Johnson scored a layup to tie the game up 6-6, but NWMSU quickly scored again to retake the lead. The lead didn't last long as Richardson would score a layup to retie the game 8-8. The SBU Bearcats scored twice more with layups from Richardson and 
Ashlee Pitts as the 1st quarter ended with SBU leading 12-10. It was a minute into the second quarter before 
Taylor Jackson scored a 3-pointer with Botkin following it up soon after with a layup to bring the score to 17-10. The SBU Bearcats went on an 8-0 run before NWMSU scored twice bringing the score to 27-19 with 2:16 left in the half. SBU was able to score off shots from 
Mackenzie Skupa, 
Megan Rosenbohm, and Richardson before the 2nd quarter ended with SBU leading 32-12.
 
SBU started the 3rd quarter with a 6-0 run before NWMSU scored twice. 
Dilonna Johnson was able to get the ball in the paint to 
Alex Botkin who scored a layup extending SBU's lead to 40-22. The game was scoreless for the next minute before 
Morgan Lucy scored on a layup from 
Sarah Magana, while also adding a freethrow to put the Bearcats up 43-22. The scoring went back and forth with the 3rd quarter ending with SBU still in the lead by a score of 50-36. SBU opened up the final quarter with a layup and free-throw from Rosenbohm before NWMSU scored their only shot all 4th quarter with 7:00 remaining in the game. SBU went on a final 9-0 run to win their opening MIAA game of the season, 62-38.
 
Caylee Richardson led the SBU Bearcats with 16 points and 13 rebounds, her 3rd career double-double, while 
Dilonna Johnson contributed 11 points and 5 assists. As a team, the SBU Bearcats shot 41.0% from the field, 7.7% from beyond the arc, and 78.6% from the free-throw line.
 
The SBU Women's basketball team is set to host Missouri Western next on Saturday, December 5th. Tip-off is set for 1:30 p.m. from the Meyer Sports Center in Bolivar.
