Box Score Photo GalleryBolivar, Mo. - The Southwest Baptist University men's basketball team fell to Northwest Missouri on Thursday evening 73-50. With the loss, SBU drops to 4-2 (0-1 MIAA) on the season.
Southwest Baptist started out the game with strong defense, and buckets on their first three possessions as they held an early 7-0 lead.
Marley Biyendolo hit a pair of jumpers, and
Brian Patterson connected from long range to give SBU the early lead. Northwest Missouri responded with buckets of their own to stay close, but an Elliott Warren layup with 12:16 left in the first half gave SBU their biggest lead of the night at 14-5. Northwest Missouri started to slowly chip away, but SBU responded with several baskets to maintain a small lead for the remainder of the first half. Northwest Missouri cut the Southwest Baptist lead to one (27-26) with 1:24 to go in the half, but another bucket from Warren gave SBU a 29-26 halftime lead.
In the second half Northwest Missouri opened up the half with a 14-2 run, as Southwest Baptist trailed 42-31 with 13:55 left in the game. Warren connected on a three from
Cartier Dean to pull SBU back within ten at 42-34. However, Northwest Missouri continued to grow their lead as Southwest Baptist would eventually fall 73-50.
Marley Biyendolo had a team high 12 points off of 4 of 6 shooting from the field, while
Theo Oghide pulled down a career high 12 rebounds. Elliott Warren added 10 points and 5 rebounds off of the bench in the loss. As a team, SBU shot 34.7% from the field, 35.7% from beyond the arc, and 84.6% from the free throw line.
Southwest Baptist will return to action on Saturday, December 5 when they host Missouri Western. Tip-off is set for 3:30 p.m. from the Meyer Sports Center in Bolivar.
