Bolivar, Mo. - Southwest Baptist returns home to close out the 2015 calendar year with a pair of home games, starting with Fort Hays State on Saturday.
The Coaches and the All-Time SeriesSBU head coach
Clark Sheehy begins his second season on the SBU bench after coming off of a 11-18 (6-13 MIAA) record last season. Coach Sheehy holds a career coaching record of 193-119 across ten seasons while coaching six different All-Americans and over 20 athletes that have moved on to play professional basketball.
Mark Johnson begins his 15th season as the head coach at Fort Hays State. Johnson holds a career coaching record of 284-127 and is the all-time coaching wins leader in FHSU history.
The series between Southwest Baptist and Fort Hays State is tied 8-8. The Bearcats claimed a 72-70 victory over the Tigers in Hays last season.
Scouting the BearcatsThe Bearcats are coming off of a 59-57 road loss to Washburn, and are now 6-3 (2-2 MIAA) on the season. The Bearcats are led in scoring by
Brian Patterson who averages 15.9 ppg and 6.9 rpg, while
Logan Hovey averages a double-double at 14.0 ppg and 10.0 rpg.
Marley Biyendolo averages 7.3 ppg, and
Cartier Dean averages 7.2 ppg. SBU is outrebounding their opponents by over 10 rebounds per game (39.8 rpg to 29.1 rpg).
Scouting the TigersFort Hays enters the contest against Southwest Baptist 8-2 (2-2 MIAA) on the season. The Tigers are coming off of a 69-68 road win over #15 Central Missouri and have won three straight. FHSU is led in scoring and rebounding by Dom Samac who averages 17.7 ppg and 7.0 rpg. Rob Davis is also in double-figures at 14.5 ppg, while Jake Stoppel averages 11.1 ppg and 6.1 rpg.
