Bolivar, Mo. - Southwest Baptist will hit the road for the first time this season when they travel to Washburn on Saturday.
The Coaches and the All-Time SeriesSBU head coach
Clark Sheehy begins his second season on the SBU bench after coming off of a 11-18 (6-13 MIAA) record last season. Coach Sheehy holds a career coaching record of 193-119 across ten seasons while coaching six different All-Americans and over 20 athletes that have moved on to play professional basketball.
Bob Chipman begins his 37th season as the head coach at Washburn. Chipman holds a career coaching record of 773-330, while his win percentage is the 10th best among all NCAA Division II coaches who have coached at least 5 years.
Washburn leads the all-time series against Southwest Baptist 34-16. The Ichabods claimed last year's only meeting 68-56 in Topeka.
Scouting the BearcatsThe Bearcats are coming off of a 70-60 victory over Nebraska-Kearney, and now stand at 6-2 (2-1 MIAA) on the season. The Bearcats are led in scoring by
Brian Patterson who averages 17.3 ppg and 7.0 rpg, while
Logan Hovey averages a double-double at 14.0 ppg and 10.5 rpg.
Marley Biyendolo averages 7.6 ppg, and
Nate Nahirny averages 6.9 ppg. SBU is outrebounding their opponents by over 12 rebounds per game (40.9 rpg to 28.5 rpg).
Scouting the IchabodsWashburn enters the contest against Southwest Baptist 5-2 (1-1 MIAA) on the season. The Ichabods are coming off of a 82-76 road loss to Nebraska-Kearney. WU is led in scoring by Cameron Wiggins who is averaging 13.9 ppg, while Javion Blake (12.4 ppg) and Randall Smith (10.3 ppg) are both in double figures. Brady Skeens averages a team high 7.7 rpg to go along with 9.3 ppg.
