McBee, Jenkins, Edwards II Highlight 14 All-GLVC Honorees

Indianapolis, Ind. - The Southwest Baptist University football team had a record 14 athletes honored across the All-GLVC teams and major postseason awards handed out by the GLVC. Senior defensive back Antion McBee and sophomore running back Bubba Jenkins both earned 1st Team All-GLVC honors, while freshman quarterback Trent Edwards II was named the GLVC Freshman of the Year.

McBee led the GLVC in Interceptions (9) after breaking both the GLVC and SBU single season record, while also ranking 2nd in the NCAA. Jenkins became only the 4th Bearcat in school history to rush for over 1,000 yards, finishing the season with 1,201 yards and 16 rushing touchdowns. Edwards II finished off his freshman campaign by throwing for 2,304 yards with 21 touchdowns to only 4 interceptions on the year, while also rushing for 479 yards and 8 scores on the ground.

Earning 2nd Team All-GLVC honors were senior defensive lineman Josh Caver, junior defensive lineman Victor Clavier, sophomore linebacker Tyler Curts, junior defenisve lineman Vice Epenesa, senior offensive lineman Josh Johnson, senior punter Austin Molitor, senior wide receiver Nathan Mourik, and senior offensive lineman Jimmy Schmitzer.

Mourik led all SBU recievers with 815 yards and 9 touchdowns, while Curts was the top SBU tackler by recording 100 tackles on the season. Epenesa finished off his junior campaign with a team high 14 tackles for a loss and 5 sacks, while Caver had 12.5 tackles for a loss with 3 sacks. Clavier ended his season with 9.5 tackles for a loss, with 1.5 sacks, and 49 total tackles. Molitor finished off his career as the SBU record holder for punt average, while averaging 38.9 yards per punt his senior year. Johnson and Schmitzer anchored an offensive line that produced 195.8 rushing yards per game, ranking 2nd in the GLVC.

Earning All-MIAA Honorable Mention honors were sophomore defensive back Quinlan Gaines, sophomore wide receiver Kendrick Payne, and sophomore offensive utility Connor Still. Payne finished the season with 564 receiving yards and 7 touchdowns, while Gaines had 1 interception along with 7 pass breakups.
