Time Runs Out on SBU Women as they Fall to #11 Drury 84-69

Bolivar, Mo. - The Southwest Baptist University Women's Basketball team faced off against the #11 Drury University Panthers for the annual Highway 13 Catfight. Despite fighting hard and playing strong defense, the Bearcats fell 84-69 dropping their record to 2-1 on the season.
 
The Bearcats were the first to score less than a minute into the game with a layup by Caylee Richardson. For the next eight minutes, both teams went back and forth with Drury holding a slim lead on the Bearcats. Even with shots from Caylee Richardson, Ashlee Pitts, and Mackenzie Skupa, the Bearcats would end the first quarter trailing the Panthers 24-14. SBU was again the first to score at the beginning of the second quarter with a free-throw from Alex Botkin. A jumper and 2 free-throws later from Morgan Henderson would put the score at 32-19. Later the Bearcats were able to score on jumpers by Morgan Lucy and Megan Rosenbohm and were 7-10 from the free-throw line but headed into the half down 50-30.
 
Less than two minutes into the third quarter, the Panthers scored first but the Bearcats answered back quickly when Ashlee Pitts shot a 3-pointer. The Panthers went on a 7-0 run before Caylee Richardson ended the streak with a layup. A layup by Natalie O'Keefe with 4:03 left in the third quarter brought the score to 62-41. The Bearcats were able to score 8 more points but ended the third quarter trailing the Panthers 67-49. A layup by Mackenzie Skupa started off the fourth quarter. After a layup by the Panthers, the Bearcats rallied and went on an 11-0 run cutting the Panther lead 71-62. Free-throws by Mackenzie Skupa and Caylee Richardson would lessen the lead 72-65. Despite a strong defense and shots down the stretch from Morgan Henderson, Sarah Magana, and Mackenzie Skupa, the Bearcats would fall to the Panthers 84-69.
 
Caylee Richardson led the Bearcats in scoring and rebounds with her second career double-double with 21 points and 11 rebounds. Ashlee Pitts had a strong offensive game scoring 15 points with Mackenzie Skupa close behind chipping in 12 points. As a team the Bearcats shot 38.1% from the field, 33.3% from behind the arc, and 64.0% from the free-throw line. 
 
The Bearcats will play Mckendree University on November 21st at the Melvin Price Convocation Center in Lebanon, Illinois. Tip-off is set for 3:00 p.m.
