Box Score Bolivar, MO. – The Southwest Baptist University Women's Soccer team nearly completed an improbable comeback against the Northeastern State Riverhawks, but ended up settling for a 3-3 tie on a cold and rainy afternoon at Plaster Stadium. With the tie, the Bearcats finsh their regular season with a record of 9-8-1 (6-4-1 MIAA).
The Bearcats would strike first in the 9th minute, when
Karla Jamison went streaking down the middle of the field with two other Bearcats flanking her on a 3 on 1 break. Jamison passed it to the right, where her sister,
Kate Jamison, would blast it past the Riverhawks goalie giving the Bearcats a 1-0 lead. The Riverhaws would answer in the 30th minute as the ball bounced between defenders before it was kicked into the back of the net by Jennifer Cudjoe.
The score would remain tied entering halftime, but the Riverhaws would take the lead just 3 minutes into the 2nd half. Anastasia Robinson took a cross from Cudjoe and kicked it in. 8 minutes later, the Riverhawks would tally another when Julia Mathis scored extending the NSU lead to 3-1.
In the 75th minute, the Bearcats got really aggressive and were relentless in their attack and keeping the ball on NSU side. In the 82nd minute,
Caroline Karlsson crossed a ball into the box where
Averi Walker headed it into the side of the goal to bring the Bearcats within a goal. 8 minutes later, with 20 seconds left in the game, Karlsson passed a ball to the top of the box finding
Taylor Schmidt, who gave it one touch and blasted it home tying the game at 3.
The teams would play two scoreless overtime periods and the game ended with SBU and NSU tied at 3.
The Bearcats will return to action on Wednesday, November 4th, in what will be the 1st round of the MIAA tournament. Final conference seeding will be determined tomorrow.
