Box Score Kirksville, Mo. -
Antion McBee collected two more interceptions to increase his NCAA leading mark, but it wasn't enough for the Bearcats as SBU fell 23-14 on the road to Truman. With the loss, SBU drops to 2-4 (1-3 GLVC) on the season.
After opening the game off with an SBU punt, McBee picked up his first interception of the game, giving the Bearcats the ball back on the Truman 36 yardline. The SBU offense used 20 yards of rushing by
Bubba Jenkins to advance the ball down to the Truman 6 yardline, but the Bulldogs blocked the SBU point to keep the score tied 0-0. TSU responded on their next drive, going 83 yards and chewing up nearly 8 minutes of clock, as the Bearcats trailed 7-0 after one quarter of play.
In the second quarter, the SBU defense played well, helping keep the Bearcats in the contest. The Bearcat defense held it's ground after TSU drove the ball down to the SBU 4 yardline before SBU forced a field goal, giving TSU a 10-0 lead. Neither team would put another point on the scoreboard in the quarter, as SBU went into the half trailing 10-0.
In the second half Truman used their first drive to extend their lead to 17-0, but the Bearcats offense quickly responded. With the ball on their own 38 yardline,
Trent Edwards II hit
Kendrick Payne with a 62 yard touchdown pass, but a blocked extra point made the score 17-6. The SBU defense held its ground once again, forcing a Truman punt, and as the Bearcats took over on their own 20 yardline with 6:18 left in the third quarter.
Bubba Jenkins started the drive off with a 65 yard scamper, giving SBU another red-zone opportunity. SBU had to settle for a field goal try, but once again the Bulldog defense blocked the field goal as SBU came away empty handed. However, the defense once again came up big for the Bearcats. On 2nd and 5 from the TSU 30, McBee collected his second interception of the day, and took this one back 31 yards for his first touchdown of the season. A Edwards II rush on the 2-point conversion try pulled SBU within three at 17-14 heading into the 4th quarter.
In the 4th quarter Truman pounded the ball on the ground, adding a pair of field goals, as SBU would eventually fall 23-14.
McBee continues to play extremely well in the SBU secondary, collecting an SBU single season record 7th and 8th interceptions of the season.
Shaun Hutchinson and Tyler curts both collected a game high 10 tackles a piece, while
Josh Caver had 2.5 tackles for a loss. Offensively,
