Box Score Hays, Kan. - The Southwest Baptist University women's basketball team fell at Fort Hays State on Monday evening 72-56. With the loss, SBU drops to 5-6 (1-3 MIAA) on the season.
Fort Hays State opened the game up with a bucket, and slowly built their lead to double-digits at 17-6 with 13:12 left in the first half. SBU stuck right with FHSU, and a
Leann Terrill layup with 11:04 left in the half cut the Tiger lead to six at 21-15. Four minutes later, a
Megan Rosenbohm three cut the FHSU lead to two at 25-23, but Fort Hays pushed their lead back to nine at 32-23 with 4:06 left in the half. SBU ended the half on a strong 8-1 run as they went into the break trailing 33-31.
Terrill opened up the second half with a game tying jumper, but the Tigers then used a 10-0 run quickly extend their lead back to double-digits. From that point forward, SBU was unable to get the game back under seven points as the Bearcats would eventually fall 72-56.
SBU was led in scoring by
Lissette Plasencia and
Leann Terrill who both had 10 points a piece, while
Megan Rosenbohm and
Dilonna Johnson both added 9 points. As a team, SBU shot 31.7% from the field, 33.3% from beyond the arc, and 56.3% from the free throw line.
Southwest Baptist will be back in action on Thursday, January 8 when they host Northeastern State. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m. from the Meyer Sports Center in Bolivar.
