Box Score Jefferson City, Mo. - The Southwest Baptist University men's basketball team had no problems on the road at Lincoln on Saturday afternoon, winning the contest handily against the Blue Tigers 69-50. With the victory, SBU improves to 9-11 (4-7 MIAA) on the season.
The Bearcats started the evening off with an old fashioned three point play from
Daymond Cowlah, taking a 3-0 lead, and later a
Derrick Stewart three at the 17:28 mark in the first half tied the game up at 7-7. From that point forward, the Bearcats took control of the game, slowly building up their lead. The Bearcats made a big push with 8:01 remaining in the first half, as the outscored LU 14-2 to close out the half, taking a 39-22 lead in the break.
In the second half, the Bearcats took over right where they left off. SBU used a 15-3 run to begin the half, pushing their lead to a game high 29 points (54-25) with 14:54 to go. SBU maintained a 20+ point lead for a majority of the second half, eventually coming away with a 69-50 victory.
SBU provided a balanced offensive attack, with six players scoring six or more points.
Daymond Cowlah led the way with a game high 15 points to go along with 6 steals while
Finn Delany had 13 points.
Menas Stephens added 9 points and 8 rebounds, while
David Gabrovsek added 8 points in the victory. As a team SBU shot 50.0% from the field, 31.6% from beyond the arc, and 53.8% from the free throw line.
The Bearcats will be back in action on Thursday, January 29 when they host Missouri Southern. Tip-off from the Meyer Sports Center is set for 7:30 p.m.
