Box Score Bolivar, Mo. - The Southwest Baptist University women's basketball team used a strong second half to claim a 70-60 comeback victory over Lindenwood. With the win, SBU improves to 7-9 (3-6 MIAA) on the season.
Southwest Baptist opened the game up against Lindenwood with a
Leann Terrill layup to take an early 2-0 lead, but the Lady Lions quick responded by taking a 7-2 lead only three minutes into the game. The Bearcats battled back, tying the game up at 7-7 off of a
Lissette Plasencia jumper but LWU used a 10-2 run to extend their lead to 19-11 with 12:43 left in the half. The Bearcats cut the Lady Lions lead back down to three when
Megan Rosenbohm drained a three from the top of the key with 9:38 in the half, but LWU once again responded. Lindenwood used a 9-0 run to extend their lead to double-digits and Southwest Baptist went into the break trailing 34-23.
Coming out of the break the Bearcats cut the lead back under ten only to have Lindenwood push it back to 13 (38-25) with 17:46 left in the contest. The Bearcats continued to hang around, and a layup from
Lissette Plasencia with 15:16 left cut the deficit back to single digits at 40-32. SBU continued to fight and chip away at the lead, using strong defense and timely shooting from
Dilonna Johnson to regain the lead at 45-44 with 9:10 to go. After exchanging leads for a couple of possessions, the Bearcats continued their pressure defense to go on a 6-0 run and take a 53-47 lead with 6:49 left. After extending the lead to nine off of a pair of free throw from
Alexis Edwards, the Bearcats finished the half off strong to claim a 70-60 victory.
Dilonna Johnson gave SBU a team high 19 points while
Lissette Plasencia had 17 points off of bench.
Megan Rosenbohm had 10 points, while
Sarah Magana pulled down a team high 9 boards in the win. As a team SBU shot 34.8% from the field, 31.3% from beyond the arc, and 54.3% from the free throw line.
The Bearcats will hit the road on Saturday, January 24 when they travel to Lincoln. Tip-off is set for 1:30 p.m. from Jefferson City, Missouri.
