Box Score Bolivar, Mo. - The Southwest Baptist University men's basketball team gave a strong effort in the final minutes, but fell just shy in a 73-66 loss to MIAA leading Lindenwood. With the loss, SBU drops to 8-11 (3-7 MIAA) on the season.
The Bearcats busted out the gates quickly against the Lions, going up 8-0 through the first three minutes of play. Lindenwood settled down and started chipping away at the lead, tying the game up at 13-13 with 14:01 left in the half. The Lions would eventually take over the lead, but SBU kept it close by never letting LWU take more than a five point lead as the Bearcats went into the half trailing 36-33.
In the second half the Lions quickly built a lead, as SBU fell behind 43-35 with 17:32 left in the game. The Lions pushed their lead to 13 with 12:02 to go as SBU kept the game within grasp. The Bearcats cut the deficit back to single digits off of a
Daymond Cowlah layup with 7:03 left, but Lindenwood maintained a 11 point lead heading into the final four minutes of action. The Bearcats used a small 5-0 run to cut the deficit down to five with 1:10 to go, but it wasn't enough as the Bearcats would end up falling 73-66.
Daymond Cowlah led the way offensively for SBU with a team high 11 points while
Finn Delany added 10 points in the post. As a team SBU shot 44.7% from the field, 25.0% from beyond the arc, and 72.0% from the free throw line.
The Bearcats will be back in action on Saturday, January 24 when they travel to Lincoln. Tip-off against the Blue Tigers is set for 3:30 p.m. from Jefferson City, Missouri.
