SBU Men's Basketball Hosts Missouri Western on Saturday

Bolivar, Mo. - Southwest Baptist returns home to close out the week by hosting Missouri Western on Saturday.

The Coaches and the All-Time Series
SBU head coach Clark Sheehy begins his first season on the SBU bench after coming to the Bearcats from John Brown University. Coach Sheehy holds a career coaching record of 182-106 across nine seasons while coaching six different All-Americans and over 20 athletes that have moved on to play professional basketball.

Brett Weiberg enters into his second year on the bench at Missouri Western. Weiberg led MWSU to a 10-18 record in his only year at Western after collecting 129 victories across seven years at Northern Oklahoma.

Missouri Western leads the all-time series against Southwest Baptist 49-29. The Bearcats claimed the last meeting between the two schools last season at SBU 100-97.

Scouting the Bearcats
The Bearcats fell to the MIAA leading Northwest Missouri Bearcats in overtime last time out, 77-73. SBU now stands at 8-9 (3-5 MIAA) on the season. Southwest Baptist is led in scoring by Menas Stephens who averages a double-double at 11.9 points per game and an MIAA high 10.4 rebounds per game. Daymond Cowlah also averages 10.2 points per game to go along with 2.8 assists per game, while Derrick Stewart averages 7.9 points per game, Quniton Smith averages 7.8 points per game, Robert Shaw averages 7.5 points per game, and Finn Delany averages 6.9 points per game.

Scouting the Griffons
Missouri Western is coming off of a 64-58 loss at #25 Central Missouri and are now 7-8 (3-5 MIAA) on the season. The Griffons ared led in scoring by Cortrez Colbert who is averaging 14.8 ppg. Cole Clearman is the next leading scorer for MWSU at 9.1 ppg, followed by Kevin Thomas who averages 8.2 ppg and a team high 5.1 rpg.
