Bolivar, Mo. - The Southwest Baptist University women's basketball team lost a heartbreaker to Northwest Missouri on Wednesday evening in Maryville 66-64. With the loss, SBU falls to 5-9 (1-6 MIAA) on the season.

Southwest Baptist opened the game up strong, taking an 8-3 advantage off of five early points from Alexis Edwards. However, Northwest Missouri used an 8-2 run to take an 11-10 lead, but the NWMSU lead wouldn't last for long. Southwest Baptist used strong defense and a 5-0 run to re-take the lead at 15-11 with 13:24 to go in the first half. SBU continued to put pressure on the ball, as they extended their lead to 13 (37-24) with 3:12 left in the half. Northwest Missouri fought right back, ending the half on a 14-0 run as SBU went into the break trailing 38-37.

The second half started much in the same way as the first, with Leann Terrill draining a three followed by a pull-up jumper by Dilonna Johnson to give SBU a 42-38 lead. SBU held stead over the next ten minutes of the contest, taking a 54-49 lead into the second media timeout of the half. Southwest Baptist built their lead back up to nine (58-49) with 8:13 left in the game, but Northwest continued to hang around by cutting the SBU lead back to four (62-58) at the final media break. The game came down to the wire, but a last second shot by Northwest Missouri wins them the game as the Bearcats fall 66-64.

Southwest Baptist was led in scoring by Dilonna Johnson who had 15 points and 5 assists while Megan Rosenbohm had 14 points and 6 steals off of the bench. As a team SBU shot 40.3% from the field, 37.5% from beyond the arc, and 80.0% from the free throw line.

The Bearcats will return home on Saturday, January 17 when they host Missouri Western. Tip-off is set for 1:30 p.m. from the Meyer Sports Center in Bolivar.
