Box Score Bolivar, Mo. - A late game surge was not enough for the SBU women's basketball team on Saturday afternoon, as they fell to visiting Central Oklahoma 72-65. With the loss, the Bearcats drop to 5-8 (1-5 MIAA) on the season.
The Bearcats opened up the game with a layup from
Alexis Edwards, and took an early 8-4 lead off a jumper from
Dilonna Johnson. UCO fought back, tying the game up at 12-12 with 12:12 left in the first half, and extended the Bronchos lead to eight (22-14) with 6:23 left in the first. The Bearcats continued to hang around, a three from
Leann Terrill cut the lead down to four at 26-22, but UCO ended the half on a 7-2 run as the Bearcats went into the break trailing 33-24.
In the second half UCO quickly built their lead up to 16 (40-26) before the Bearcats went on a mini-run to cut the lead back to single digits. SBU used a 9-2 run, capped off by a
Sarah Magana three, to cut the Bronchos lead to seven (42-35) with 14:13 left in the contest. However, UCO would push the lead back to double-digits and hold constant until extending the Broncho lead to 16 (67-51) with 2:12 to go. The Bearcats turned on the pressure defense, and three's from
Megan Rosenbohm and
Alex Botkin sparked an 11-2 run to cut the UCO lead to seven at 69-62 with 36 seconds left. However, time ran out on the Bearcats as they would eventually fall 72-65.
SBU was led in scoring by
Alex Botkin who gave SBU 11 points off of the bench, while
Morgan Lucy had a solid game in the post with 10 points.
Leann Terrill added 9 points,
Alexis Edwards 8 points and 7 rebounds, and
Megan Rosenbohm had 8 points off of the bench in the loss. As a team SBU shot 43.5% from the field, 42.9% from beyond the arc, and 66.7% from the free throw line.
The Bearcats will hit the road on Wednesday, January 14 when they travel to Northwest Missouri. Tip-off is set to begin at 5:30 p.m. from Maryville, Missouri.
