Box Score Huntsville, Ala. - The Southwest Baptist University volleyball team opened up the 2014 season with a 3-2 victory over Ouachita Baptist on Friday afternoon in the UAH Classic. The Bearcats dropped the first set 25-16 before taking the second and third sets 25-20 and 25-23. Ouachita Baptist came back to take set four 25-22, but the Bearcats closed out the victory by claiming the fifth set 16-14.
Kalyn Sotomayor led the way for SBU with a game high 17 kills, while
Taryn Marton recorded her first double-double on the season with 15 kills and 12 digs.
Kelsey Fankhauser took care of the setting duties for the Bearcats, collecting 42 assists, while
Hannah Blount led the backcourt with 24 digs. In their SBU debuts,
Lori Angello picked up 11 kills,
Payton White had 10 kills, and
Christine Winkelman had 12 digs.
The Bearcats quickly return to action at 4:00 CST to take on Trevecca Nazarene University.
