Box Score Bolivar, Mo. - The Southwest Baptist University women's soccer team took down non-conference opponent Newman on Monday evening 4-0. With the victory, SBU moves to 7-1 on the season.
As is a common theme this season, the Bearcats quickly jumped on the scoreboard in the first half of play. In only the second minute of play,
Karla Jamison found the bottom right corner of the net off of a pass from
Whitney Snow to put SBU up 1-0. The Bearcats added to their lead twenty minutes later when
Taylor Schmidt dribbled through the defense along the baseline and put a beautiful shot past the keeper to put SBU up 2-0. SBU continued their strong first half play when
Amy Bolton took a ricocheted pass and hit a shot into the upper right corner of the net from 25 yards out to give Southwest Baptist a 3-0 halftime lead.
In the second half,
Kate Jamison added to the scoring affair when she stole a Newman pass, dribbled past two defenders, and beat the goalie one-on-one to give SBU a 4-0 lead. The Bearcats held strong for the remainder of the game, as they went on to a 4-0 victory.
In goal,
Cheyenne Forshey and
Kaitlin Webb combined for the shutout, while Forshey was awarded the victory.
SBU will return to MIAA action on Thursday, October 2 when they host Northwest Missouri State. Play is set to begin at 2:00 p.m. from the SBU Soccer Field in Bolivar.
