Bolivar, Mo. - The Southwest Baptist University football team put together a strong second half effort, but it wasn't enough as the Bearcats fell to the Miners of Missouri S&T 28-21 on Saturday evening. With the loss, SBU drops to 1-3 (1-3 GLVC) on the season.

The Miners started the scoring off first with a touchdown pass with 10:47 to go in the first quarter as SBU trailed 7-0. With the Miners threatening again with 3:03 left in the first quarter, Antion McBee took a deflected pass 100 yards for a pick-six to tie the game up 7-7. However, right before play ended in the first half, Missouri S&T connected on a 76 yard touchdown pass as SBU trailed 13-7 after one quarter of play.

The Miners added to their lead in the second quarter with a 14 yard touchdown pass and a 1 yard touchdown run as the Bearcats headed into the break down 28-7.

In the second half, the Bearcats came out of the locker room ready to fight. To open up the half, Anthony Frezell had an excellent 39 yard kick return, coupled with an S&T penalty, to give the Bearcats the ball of the MST 39. Willie Tindal then found Scottie Wilson Jr. with a 25 yard touchdown pass in the back corner of the endzone on a 4th and 9 to cut the lead in half at 28-14.

After a solid stand by the Bearcat defense, the offense took over and put together a 76 yard touchdown drive. Tindal hit Nathan Mourik with a beautiful 28 yard pass, and then found Kendrick Payne on an 18 yard strike in the endzone to cut the lead down to 28-21.

The Bearcats played solid defense, but the Miners wouldn't allow SBU to score for the remainder of the contest as SBU fell 28-21.

Defensively the Bearcats were led by Tyler Curts who had a team high 8 tackles, while Derrick Fofanah and George Sanders both recorded 7 tackles a piece.

SBU will return to action on Saturday, October 4 for a non-conference match-up against Missouri Baptist on SBU Homecoming. Kickoff is set for 2:00 p.m. from Plaster Stadium in Bolivar.
