Box Score Bolivar, Mo. - The Southwest Baptist University women's soccer team used two second half goals to pick up a big 2-1 victory over Fort Hays on Thursday afternoon in Bolivar. With the win, SBU moves to 5-1 (3-0 MIAA) on the season.
Both the Bearcats and Tigers played a sound defensive first half, with neither team allowing any goals, as FHSU and SBU went into the half tied 0-0. The Bearcats allowed only 1 shot in the first half, while they had 10 shots, three on goal, heading into the break. The defensive battled continued in the second half, but the Bearcats finally broke free in the 59th minute.
Kate Jamison found the ball right outside of the box, dribbled through the defense, and put a laser into the bottom left corner of the net to give SBU a 1-0 lead. The Bearcats added to their lead in the 80th minute of play when Jamison sent a pass through to
Amy Bolton who hit the bottom left corner of the net to extend the Bearcat lead. Fort Hays was able to get on the scoreboard in the 85th minute off of a goal from Cenayda Guzman, but SBU held strong over the final five minutes of play to go on to the 5-1 victory.
In goal
Cheyenne Forshey picked up the victory for SBU, picking up two saves. The SBU defense held the FHSU offense to only six shots, three on goal, for the duration of the game.
SBU will return to action on Saturday, September 27 when they host Nebraska-Kearney. Play is set to begin at 12:00 p.m. (noon) from the SBU Soccer Field in Bolivar.
