Springfield, Mo. - Concluding a successful weekend at the USTA/ITA Central Regional Championships, the Southwest Baptist University men's and women's tennis teams will send singles player
Christina Zentai and the doubles team of Zentai and
Fanni Varga to the USTA/ITA Small College Nationals after both claimed Central Regional titles.
Christina Zentai continued her dominant performance on the weekend by picking up two more singles victories. Zentai had a 6-2, 6-2 win over Camila Quesada to advance to finals where she defeated teammate
Fanni Varga 6-0, 6-2 to claim her first USTA/ITA singles championship of her career. Varga advanced to finals by defeating Drury's Hadeil Ali 6-3, 7-5 before falling to Zentai in the finals.
In doubles competition, Varga and Zentai had no problem claiming their second straight USTA/ITA Central Regional doubles championship with an 8-2 victory over Northeastern State's Kristina Savchenkov and Valeriia Efimenko.
In men's play, Kristof Kinal fell to Northwest Missouri's Alvaro Riveros 7-5, 6-3 in the semi-finals, and the doubles team of Kinal/Chris Blodig dropped the championship match to UNK's Joey Richards and Lucas Garces 9-7.
Zentai and Varga will now advance to the USTA/ITA Small College Nationals in Sumter, South Carolina on October 9-12.
