Ali Skogrand Nets Two Goals as SBU Women's Soccer Takes Down Missouri Southern 4-1

Bolivar, Mo. - The Southwest Baptist University women's soccer team picked up their first MIAA victory on the season with a 4-1 win over Missouri Southern on Friday afternoon in Bolivar. With the victory, SBU moves to 3-1 (1-0 MIAA) on the season.

The Bearcats started the scoring right off when Ali Skogrand knocked her first goal of the day only 1:14 in the game to give the Bearcats a 1-0 lead. Skogrand headed a corner kick pass from Amy Bolton, which it the bar, and dropped in to give SBU the lead. The Bearcats recorded their second goal of the game when Elin Hammar crossed the ball to Taylor Schmidt who sent a touch pass to Karla Jamison who put it in the back of the net to take a 2-0 lead. SBU would hold MSSU scoreless in the first half as the Bearcats went into the break up 2-0.

In the second half, Southwest Baptist once again was the first to strike. Skogrand had her second goal of the game off of a header from a corner kick pass from Amy Bolton to put the Bearcats up 3-0. Missouri Southern would get one goal back off of a penalty kick, but Haylee Thibodeaux would extend the SBU lead to 4-1 with her first goal of the season off a pass from Elin Hammar. SBU would hold strong as they went on to the 4-1 victory.

The Bearcats will hit the road on Sunday, September 21 when they travel to Central Oklahoma for a match-up against the Bronchos. Play is set to begin at 12:00 p.m. from Edmond, Oklahoma.
