Justin Schaeffer scored his second goal in as many games, but the Bearcats fell to Upper Iowa 5-1 on Thursday afternoon. With the loss, SBU drops to 0-6 on the season.
The Bearcats and Peacocks remained in a close, scoreless game for the first 35 minutes of the first half. Upper Iowa broke the tie in the 34th minute, and then added another goal in the 37th minute. Going into the half, SBU trailed UIU 4-0. In the second half, the Bearcats were the first to strike in the 68th minute when
Justin Schaeffer hit the far post over the goalie from 25 yards out, assisted by
Gaspar Mata, to pull SBU within three at 4-1. However, Upper Iowa added another late goal as the Bearcats fell 5-1.
SBU will continue their road trip on Saturday, September 20 when they travel to Lindenwood. Play is set to begin at 6:00 p.m. from St. Charles, Missouri.
