SBU Volleyball Finishes off NSU Classic with Victory over Minot State

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Aberdeen, S.D. - The Southwest Baptist University volleyball team finished off the NSU Dacotah Bank Volleyball Classic with a 3-0 victory over Minot State after falling 3-1 to St. Cloud State earlier in the day. After the pair of the games, the Bearcats now stand at 5-3 on the season.

In the second contest of the day, the Bearcats played three tight sets with Minot State, with SBU claiming victories in all sets: 25-22, 25-23, 25-23. The Bearcats were led offensively by Lori Angello who picked up 11 kills in the match, while Kalyn Sotomayor had 9 kills and Payton White had 8 kills. Taryn Marton had a solid all-around game as she picked up 6 kills to go along with 18 digs, while Hannah Blount also had 14 digs in the victory. Kelsey Fankhauser continues to handle the setting duties for SBU, collecting 34 assists.

In the first match of the day, the Bearcats fell 3-1 to St. Cloud State. After dropping the first set 25-23, the Bearcats came back to take set two 25-23 before falling in the final two sets 25-16 and 25-19. Marton led the Bearcats in kills with 11, while White had 9 kills and Sotomayor and Angello each had 8 kills a piece. Defensively, Katy Fitzpatrick led SBU with a career 16 digs, while Blount had 14 digs and Christine Winkelman had 11 digs. Fankhauser also picked up 41 assists in the loss.

The Bearcats will continue their road trip as they travel to Pittsburg State on Tuesday, September 16. The MIAA match is set to begin at 7:00 p.m. from Pittsburg, Kansas.
