SBU Football Claims First GLVC Victory, Taking Down Lincoln 42-21

Box Score Jefferson City, Mo. - The Southwest Baptist University football team picked up their first GLVC victory in the program's history with a 42-21 victory over Lincoln on Saturday afternoon. With the win, SBU moves to 1-1 (1-1 GLVC) on the season.

The Bearcats wasted no time getting on the scoreboard in the first quarter. On SBU's first play from scrimmage, Willie Tindal hit Scottie Wilson Jr. with a 67 yard touchdown strike to put the Bearcats up 7-0. Lincoln responded on the following drive with a touchdown to tie the game up 7-7. The Blue Tigers continued to push, and tacked on another score at the beginning of the second quarter as SBU found themselves down 14-7.

With 7:41 left in the first half, the SBU offense started clicking on all cylinders. Tindal used passes of 37, 20, and a 15 yard touchdown strike to Kendrick Payne to tie the game up 14-14. The Bearcats then forced a Blue Tigers punt, and followed up the strong defensive stand with a 93 yard touchdown drive capped off by a 47 yard touchdown pass from Tindal to Nathan Mourik to give SBU a 21-14 lead heading into the half.

The SBU offense and defense continued to dominate the game heading into the second half. On the first drive of the third quarter, the Bearcats took the ball 88 yards by mixing in both passing and rushing plays to go up 28-14. Bubba Jenkins plunged into the endzone with a 1 yard rush for the Bearcats first rushing touchdown of the day. After an LU three-and-out, the Bearcats pushed the lead to 35-14 when Tindal once again found Mourik in the endzone off of an 87 yard touchdown pass. The Bearcat defense was outstanding in the third quarter, allowing only 14 total yards by the Lincoln offense.

In the start of the fourth quarter, after Tyler Curts interception, the Bearcats pushed their lead to 42-14 when Joey Dominguez gave SBU their second rushing touchdown of the day, a three yard run with 8:38 to go in the contest. Lincoln would add another score late, but the Bearcats went on to claim a 42-21 victory.

Willie Tindal had an outstanding game, completing 19 of 24 passes for 447 yards and four touchdowns. Despite playing in only three quarters, Tindal's performance is the second highest single game passing yardage performance in GLVC history. Nathan Mourik recorded his second straight 200+ yard receiving effort, hauling in six receptions for 207 yards and a pair of scores. On the defensive side of the ball, Derrick Fofanah and ViaVia Manuma led the way with 7 tackles a piece, while Fofanah had a team high 1.5 sacks.

The Bearcats will return home on Saturday, September 20 when they host #15 Indianapolis for their third straight GLVC contest. Kickoff is set for 6:00 p.m. from Plaster Stadium in Bolivar.
