Box Score St. Joseph, Mo. - The Southwest Baptist University baseball team fell in game two of a three game series against Missouri Western on Friday evening 10-5. The Bearcats and Griffons have each claimed one victory, with tomorrow's series finale determining who will advance to the MIAA Baseball Tournament Semi-Finals.
The Bearcats fell behind early in game two, as Missouri Western jumped out to a 4-0 lead through two innings of play. The Griffons added another two runs in the fourth before SBU started to battle back in the fifth.
Bo Helsel led the inning off by being hit by a pitch, and
Chance Wolfe doubled down the left field line to put runners on second and third.
Ross Wolfe then hit an rbi single to shortstop, followed by a
Drew Miller single up the middle to cut the lead to 6-2. After a pair of strikeouts,
Christian Binger then hit a three-run homerun to left field as SBU trailed 6-5.
Missouri Western responded with two runs in the bottom half of the inning, but the Bearcats threatened to score in the top of the seventh by loading the bases, but were unable to plate any runs. SBU would end up falling 10-5 in game two of the series.
SBU and Missouri Western will play the third and final game of the series on Saturday, May 3 at MWSU to determine who will advance to the semi-finals of the MIAA Tournament. Opening pitch is set for 1:00 p.m. from St. Joseph, Missouri.
