Box Score Pittsburg, Kan. - The Southwest Baptist University baseball team completed a four-game series sweep over Pittsburg State on Sunday afternoon, claiming a 9-0 victory in the final game of the series. SBU pitcher
Cole Roark threw a complete game three-hit shutout, his first shutout of his career.
SBU jumped ahead quickly in the first when
Landon Young came home to give the Bearcats a 1-0 lead.
Cole Roark held the Gorillas without a hit through the first four innings of the game, before SBU exploded for six runs in the top of the fifth.
Tyler Hampton led the inning off with a single to right field, and after a
Seth Ell walk, Hampton came home on an error by the PSU pitcher to give SBU a 2-0 lead. After a
Christian Binger walk to load the bases,
Spencer Blacksher hit an rbi single to increase the lead to 3-0. The Bearcats continued to string together hits, with
Jake Vore hitting a two-rbi double to left center, followed by an rbi single from
Bo Helsel and an rbi single from
Ross Wolfe to put SBU up 7-0 after four and a half innings of play.
The Bearcats added another two runs in the seventh off of rbi singles from
Tyler Hampton and
Ross Wolfe as SBU would cruise to a 9-0 victory.
Cole Roark threw an outstanding game from the mound, going 9.0 innings while allowing only 3 hits to go along with three strikeouts in his complete game victory.
The Bearcats will return to action on Tuesday, April 8 when they host William Jewell in a single nine inning non-conference contest. First pitch is set to begin at 2:00 p.m. from Dodson Field in Bolivar.
