Box Score 2 Jefferson City, Mo. - The Southwest Baptist University softball team swept Lincoln on Saturday afternoon 8-0 and 6-4. With the two victories, SBU moves to 12-22 (5-13 MIAA) on the season.
In game one of the double-header the Bearcats quickly got on the scoreboard in the first inning.
Londyn Backfisch started the game off with a walk, and
Addie Murders was hit by a pitch, to put two on for
Caitlyn Cooner. Cooner singled to score Backfisch, and two batters later Taylor Golay singled home Murders to give SBU a 2-0 lead. The Bearcats added another two runs later in the inning off of a
Raigan Ratliff single to go up 4-0 after a half inning of play.
SBU added to their lead in the third inning when Cooner came home on a sacrifice fly from
Lyndie Routh to put SBU up 5-0. The Bearcats added another three runs in the fifth inning off of rbi's from Routh and
Dana Graves, and a wild pitch from Lincoln, as the Bearcats run ruled the Blue Tigers 8-0 in five innings.
Kyra Parker threw her first career shutout for SBU, pitching 5 innings while allowing three hits with four strikeouts.
In game two Lincoln was the first to get on the scoreboard in the bottom of the first, but the Bearcats tied the game up at 1-1 in the third when Backfisch scored on a wild pitch. Lincoln re-took the lead in the bottom half of the inning by scoring three runs. However, the Bearcats started to battle back in the fifth inning. With runners on the corners,
Addie Murders singled to left field and Taylor Golay added a sacrifice fly to cut the Blue Tigers lead to 4-3.
SBU continued to push, re-taking the lead in the top of the sixth inning. Ratliff hit an rbi single to tie the game up, and then came home on an rbi double by
Amanda Smith to give SBU a 5-4 lead. The Bearcats added one more insurance run off of a Backfisch rbi fielder's choice as SBU went on to a 6-4 victory.
The Bearcats will return to action on Friday, April 11 when they host Central Missouri. Opening pitch of the double-header is set for 2:00 p.m. from the SBU Softball Field in Bolivar.
