Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Pittsburg, Kan. - The Southwest Baptist University baseball picked up a big double-header sweep at Pittsburg State on Saturday afternoon, and now move to 17-16 (14-12 MIAA) on the season.

In game one the Bearcats had a strong offensive presence, quickly getting on the scoreboard in the top of the first. With two outs in the first, Spencer Blacksher doubled to left field, followed by a Jake Vore walk, and then Bo Helsel hit a two-rbi double to left field to put SBU up 2-0 after one. The Bearcats doubled their lead in the top of the third when Chance Wolfe blasted a two-run homerun to left field to give SBU a 4-0 advantage.

In the fourth inning Drew Miller led off with a double down the left field line, followed by a Landon Young single, and an rbi double from Christian Binger to put SBU up 5-0. After a Blacksher intentional walk, an error by the Gorillas left fielder plated three more runs as SBU took an 8-0 advantage into the fifth. The Bearcats added another two runs in the fifth off of an rbi fielder's choice by Young, and an rbi triple by Christian Binger.

Pittsburg State scored their lone run in the bottom of the fifth inning, but SBU added another two runs in the top of the seventh. Blacksher had an rbi single to right field, and Kyle Jochems hit a pinch hit sacrifice fly as SBU would cruise to a 12-1 game one victory.

In game two SBU once again jumped ahead early. Landon Young singled up the middle, and would come home two batters later on a Pitt State error to put the Bearcats up 1-0. Pittsburg State tied the game up in the bottom of the first, and took a 4-1 lead heading into the fourth.

In the top of the fifth inning, SBU loaded the bases with two hit batsman and a single by Christian Binger. Jake Vore then hit a two-rbi to left center to pull SBU within one at 4-3. RBI's from Chance Wolfe and Ross Wolfe gave the Bearcats a 5-4 lead heading into the bottom of the sixth. However, PSU would tie the game up at 5-5, as the game would ultimately go into extra innings.

After having runners on each in each extra inning, the Bearcats broke the tie in the top of the 11th. With one out, Young and Zach Snodgrass had back-to-back singles, and Blacksher was intentionally walked after an other SBU out to load the bases with two outs. Jake Vore then hit a bases clearing three-rbi double to right center to put the Bearcats up 8-5. Sam Vergara shut down the Gorillas in the final half inning, part of his 6 inning relief pitch effort, to pick up his fourth win of the season.

The Bearcats will close out their four-game series on Sunday, April 6 against Pittsburg State. Opening pitch of the nine inning game is set for 1:00 p.m. from Pittsburg, Kansas.
