Kacey Ayers Throws Complete Game Shutout as SBU splits with Rogers State

Box Score 1 Bolivar, Mo. - The Southwest Baptist University softball team ended their 2014 season with a split against Rogers State on Tuesday afternoon. The Bearcats picked up a 2-0 game two victory after falling 3-1 in the opening game.

In game one Southwest Baptist and Rogers State played an even 0-0 game through the first three innings. Rogers State broke the tie in the fourth by plating two runs, and added another run in the sixth. The Bearcats got one run back in the bottom half of the sixth when Raigan Ratliff blasted a solo homerun over the left field fence to pull SBU within two at 3-1. However, the Bearcats were unable to plate any more runs as SBU fell 3-1.

In game two, SBU jumped ahead in the first inning to take a 1-0 lead. Londyn Backfisch led the game off with a single to center field, stole second, and advanced to third where Caitlyn Cooner hit a sacrifice fly to put SBU up 1-0. The Bearcats added to their lead in the sixth when Raigan Ratliff hit her second homerun on the day to give SBU a 2-0 lead. The lead was more than enough as SBU starter Kacey Ayers went the distance, throwing a complete game three-hitter as the Bearcats went on to a 2-0 victory in their final game of the season.

SBU ends the 2014 season with a 17-31 record.
