Box Score 2 Bolivar, Mo. – The Southwest Baptist University softball team fell in a double-header to Pittsburg State on Friday afternoon in Bolivar. SBU fell 6-4 in game one and 6-4 in extra innings in game two. The Bearcats now stand at 15-29 (7-17 MIAA).
In game one Pittsburg State jumped out to an early 1-0 lead after a half inning of play, but the Bearcats responded right back in the bottom half of the inning.
Londyn Backfisch led the inning off with a single, followed by back-to-back hit batsman, to load the bases. Back-to-back singles from
Dana Graves and
Lyndie Routh gave the Bearcats a 2-0 lead.
Pitt State responded with a run in the 3
rd to tie the game up at 2-2, but SBU re-took the lead in the bottom of the fourth. The Bearcats once again loaded the bases, and plated one run on a Graves walk and another on a PSU wild pitch to go up 4-2. However, PSU would score the next four runs as SBU fell 6-4 in game one.
The Bearcats jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first in game two, scoring off of a PSU error. The Gorillas came back to take a 3-1 lead by scoring a run in the 4
th and two more in the 5
th. SBU threatened in the sixth, but broke through in the seventh inning with a pair of runs to tie the game up. Singles by Routh and Taylor Golay gave the Bearcats two base runners, and after a sacrifice,
Raigan Ratliff hit a two-rbi double to tie the game up at 3-3. However, PSU responded in the eight with three runs to take a 6-3 lead. The Bearcats got one back in the bottom half of the inning off of a sacrifice fly from Cooner, but would drop the game in extra innings 6-4.
The Bearcats will be back in action on Saturday, April 26 when they host Missouri Southern for SBU Senior Day. Opening pitch of game one of the double-header is set for 1:00 p.m. from Bolivar, Mo.
