Box Score 2 Bolivar, Mo. - For only the fourth time in school history, and the first since the 1999 season, the Southwest Baptist University baseball team is headed for postseason play with a double-header sweep of Lincoln. The Bearcats clinched their postseason berth in a 7-3 game one victory while also claiming a 12-10 game two victory. SBU now stands at 26-22 (22-15 MIAA) on the season.
In game one the Bearcats jumped all over the Blue Tigers in the early inning of the contest. After a scoreless first, the Bearcats were able to get on the scoreboard in the top of the second. The Bearcats loaded the bases with no outs, and plated their first run of the day on a wild pitch by LU. SBU then loaded the bases back up for
Christian Binger who singled through the left side to give the Bearcats a 3-0 lead.
SBU added to their lead in fourth inning, scoring four runs to go ahead 7-0.
Jake Vore started the inning off with a single to right field, advanced to third on a pair of wild pitches, and the came home on an rbi single from
Bo Helsel. After a
Chance Wolfe double,
Drew Miller hit a sacrifice fly to give SBU a 5-0 lead. Binger then added two more rbi on a single to centerfield to put the Bearcats up 7-0. The Bearcats would cruise to a 7-3 game one victory behind
Tim Collins who threw a complete game while allowing only 4 hits to go along with 5 strikeouts.
In game two the Bearcats once again kicked the scoring off in the second inning. With one out, Helsel doubled to left field and scored a couple of batters later on a stolen base to put SBU up 1-0. The Bearcats added to their lead in the third inning off of a
Spencer Blacksher sacrifice fly to increase the lead to 2-0. Lincoln responded with two runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning, but SBU reclaimed the lead in the top of the fourth.
With two outs in the fourth SBU loaded the bases where
Landon Young hit a two-rbi single up the middle to put SBU up 4-2. After a Binger walk, Blacksher blasted a grand slam increasing the lead to 8-2. Helsel then led off the fifth with a solo homerun before Lincoln scored the next three runs as SBU held a 9-5 lead heading into the eighth. The Bearcats increased their lead to 12-5 off of rbi doubles from Young, Binger, and Vore in the eighth before Lincoln started to fight back in the bottom of the ninth. SBU was able to shut down the Blue Tigers, and force them to strand the bases loaded, as the Bearcats held on for a 12-10 game two victory. On the mound
Cory Borsh picked up his fifth victory of the season while
Sam Vergara claimed his 9th save of the year.

Chris Martin stated. "They have worked hard since August and even longer to have this opportunity [to compete in the MIAA Tournament]. I am also proud for our alumni, administration, and University. We have had a lot of support. We have been blessed this year and are thankful for all we have received. And believe me, we are excited for the opportunity!"
SBU will close out the regular season on Saturday, April 26 when they conclude the four-game set with Lincoln. Opening pitch of game one of the double-header is set for 1:00 p.m. from Jefferson City, Missouri.
