Box Score 2 Liberty, Mo. - The Southwest Baptist University baseball team fell in a double-header contest at William Jewell on Tuesday afternoon 8-3 and 12-0. The Bearcats now stand at 24-22 as they head into the final weekend of regular season action.
In game one the Bearcats jumped out to an early 1-0 lead after the first inning. With one out,
Christian Binger doubled, and was brought home one batter later on a
Spencer Blacksher double to put SBU up 1-0. The Cardinals responded in the bottom half of the inning with two runs as the Bearcats trailed 2-1 after one inning of play. Both pitchers settled down after the first, as neither team allowed a run until the sixth inning.
In the top of the sixth Blacksher led the inning off with a single left field, followed by a
Jake Vore walk. The runners advanced to second and third on a sacrifice, and were brought home on a two-rbi double from
Chance Wolfe to give SBU a 3-2 lead. However, William Jewell responded in the bottom half of the inning with six runs, fueled by two SBU errors, as the Bearcats fell 8-3 in game one. SBU was unable to put any runs on the board in the second game of the double-header as they lost 12-0.
SBU will return to action on Friday, April 25 when they travel to Lincoln to open up a four-game series against the Blue Tigers. Opening pitch of the single nine-inning game is set for 3:00 p.m. from Jefferson City, Missouri.
