Box Score Bolivar, Mo. – The Southwest Baptist University baseball team fell in their final home regular season contest of the 2014 season 13-11 to Northeastern State. The Bearcats will enter into the final week of play with a 24-20 (20-15 MIAA) record on the season.
The Riverhawks started the scoring in the top of the 3rd, plating one run as the Bearcats trailed 1-0. SBU responded in the bottom half of the inning with an rbi single from
Jake Vore to tie the game up at 1-1. The Riverhawks quickly re-took the lead with a three-run homerun in the top of the fourth, but the Bearcats continued to fight. With one out in the bottom half of the fourth
Ross Wolfe was hit by a pitch, followed by a
Drew Miller single.
Tyler Hampton then singled to left field to bring Wolfe home, and off of an error by the NSU left fielder Miller came home to put SBU down 4-3.
Landon Young then hit a sacrifice fly to right to tie the game up at 4-4.
The Bearcats continued to put runs on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fifth. Vore led the inning off with a walk, advanced to second on an NSU error, and was sacrificed to third.
Chance Wolfe then hit a sacrifice fly to put SBU up 5-4.
Ross Wolfe continued the inning with a triple down the right field line and came home on an infield single from Miller as SBU took a 6-4 lead. Back-to-back singles from Hampton and Young loaded the bases where Binger drew a walk to give SBU a 7-4 lead. NSU would score six runs over the next three innings as SBU fell behind 10-7.
SBU continued to fight, and with two outs in the bottom of the eighth Vore doubled to right center and came home on a double down the right field line by Helsel.
Chance Wolfe then hit an rbi single to centerfield to pull SBU within one at 10-9. The Riverhawks responded with three runs in the 9th before
Landon Young blasted a two-run homerun in the bottom half of the inning, but it wasn't enough as SBU fell 13-11.
SBU will return to action on Tuesday, April 22 when they travel to William Jewell for a non-conference double-header. Opening pitch is set for 3:00 p.m. from Liberty, Missouri.
