Box Score 2 Warrensburg, Mo. - The Southwest Baptist University softball team earned a split for the second time in as many days against Central Missouri. The Bearcats claimed a 9-5 game two victory after falling 16-4 in game one. The Bearcats move to 14-24 (7-15 MIAA) on the season.
In game two the Bearcats quickly jumped on the scoreboard in the top of the first, when
Caitlyn Cooner hit an rbi single to center field to put SBU up 1-0. The Bearcats added three more runs in the second, one off of a UCM error and another two from rbi hits from
Londyn Backfisch and
Addie Murders. UCM responded over the next two innings with three runs, cutting the Bearcats lead to 4-3.
SBU once again extended their lead in the top of the fifth inning. Cooner and Taylor Golay hit back-to-back singles, and were driven home on a three-run homerun from
Lyndie Routh to put the Bearcats up 7-3. SBU added another two runs off of a wild pitch and a
Jordan Gray rbi single, and would eventually go on to a 9-5 game two victory.
In game one the Bearcats again struck in the first inning.
Londyn Backfisch led the game off with a triple to right center, and was brought home two batters later on an rbi single from
Caitlyn Cooner. Over the next two innings the Jennies put up 12 runs, as SBU fell behind 12-1. In the third inning
Rachel Wilson drew a bases loaded walk, and in the fourth Cooner had a two-rbi single, but it wasn't enough as SBU up 16-4 in game one.
The Bearcats will be back in action on Tuesday, April 15 when they travel to Missouri S&T. Opening pitch of the double-header is set for 2:00 p.m. from Rolla, Missouri.
