Kyra Parker Throws Complete Game Shutout to Earn Split vs UCM

4/11/2014 7:28:00 PM

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Bolivar, Mo. - SBU pitcher, Kyra Parker, continued her string of strong starts as SBU Softball used her complete game shutout to earn a split against Central Missouri. The Bearcats claimed a 1-0 victory in game one before falling 9-0 in game two. The Bearcats now stand at 13-23 (6-14 MIAA) on the season.

The Bearcats and Jennies were in a true pitcher's dual in game one of the double-header. The Bearcats first scoring opportunity came in the bottom of the first when Addie Murders hit a one out single followed by a Caitlyn Cooner walk, but the Bearcats were unable to put a run on the scoreboard. The Bearcats also threatened to score in the third and fifth innings, but had a runner gunned down at the plate in both attempts. The Bearcats and Jennies remained tied 0-0 through the first five and a half innings of play.

From the circle, Parker was dominant throughout, holding a perfect game through five and two-thirds innings. In the bottom of the sixth, Cooner led the inning off with a walk, and two outs later Dana Graves doubled down the left field line to put SBU up 1-0. The run was enough for Parker, as she threw her second straight complete game shutout, allowing only two hits, and no walks, on the afternoon.

In game two the Bearcats failed to put on a run on the scoreboard, as they fell 9-0.

SBU will return to action on Saturday, April 12 when they travel to Central Missouri to face the Jennies for the second straight day. Opening pitch of the MIAA double-header is set for 1:00 p.m. from Warrensburg, Missouri.
